Shady Hill 2014 Graduates

 

 

Preschool:

Na’Riah Williams, the daughter of Willie and Careatha Williams, and the granddaughter of Hazel Gadson. Na’Riah graduared from Piedmont Community College Child Development Center. Na’Riah will be entering Kindergarten at North End Elementary School in the fall.

Elementary:

Mekhi Hargrove, the son of Prentice and Kimberly Hargrove. Mekhi graduated from Helena Elementary School and will be entering Southern Middle School in the fall. As an honor roll student Mekhi was recognized as a Person County Academic All Star and honored at a UNC Football game.

Middle School:

Precious Boyd, the daughter of Ellinette Lopez and Kenyart Boyd and the gran-daughter of Charlie and Debra Boyd Daniels. Precious graduated from Northern Middle School and will be  a rising freshman at Person High School in the fall.

During her years at Northern Middle School, Precious has been a part of the Cheerleading Squad, Track Team and Chorus. She volunteers in Senior Assistant Living Homes and Group Homes.

Precious is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church, where she Attends Sunday School, serves on the Junior Usher Board, is a Youth Missionary and sings with the Junior and Workshop Choirs. She attends and participates in Bible Study and Summer Bible Enrichment.

God has given Precious the talent to sing. She has been given opportunties to sing at Weddings, Funerals, Unity in the community and the Women’s Empowerment. She has won several talent competitions butthe most honored was when she was asked to sing the National Anthem for The Durham Bulls game, Shaw University and St. Augustine University.

Shy-Meek Nelson, the son of Brianne Lunsford and the grandson of George and Pamela Lunsford. Shy-Meek graduated from Southern Middle School and will be a rising Freshman at Person High School in the fall.
Shy-Meek has been involved in numerous clubs during his years at Southern Middle School; Chorus, Men of Distinction, Band, and the FBLA.

Shy-Meek is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church, where he sings on the Junior Choir and attends Youth Missionary and Summer Bible Enrichment.

Ryan Nesbitt, the son of James and Cassandra Nesbitt. Ryan graduated from Northern Middle School and will be a rising Freshman at Person High School. While at Northern, Ryan was a member of the Track Team, the National Junior Honor Society, Duke Talent Identification Program, the Raider Leadership Council, Science Olympiad and an Ambassador for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. Ryan finished his 8th year with straight A’s.

Ryan is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church.

High School:

Nicholas Bailey (2014 Person High School Graduate), the son of Nathan and Ione Smith Bailey and  the grandson of Ms. Lottie Smith and the late Sherrill Thorpe. Nicholas graduated from Person High School and will be attending NC A&T University in the fall, majoring in Sports Science & Fitness Management. Nicholas' accomplishments include being a member of the Varsity Basketball Team, National Society of High School Scholars, and Person County Scholars.

Nicholas is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church where he serves on the Junior Usher Board.

Briana Byrd ( 2014 Sandlewood High School Graduate), the daughter of Rodney and Tinesha Byrd. Briana graduated from Sandlewood High School in Jacksonville Florida and will be attending the University of North Florida, majoring in Nursing with a minor in Nutrition.

Briana graduated in the top 10% of her class, where she has been an honor roll student during her four years of high school. Briana was a member of the National Honor Society, Math Club, Senior Women and the Green State Club.

Before moving to Florida Briana attended Shady Hill Baptist Church with her parents and grandmother.

MarKeith Gentry( 2014 Person High School Graduate), the son of Michael and Lauryetta Gentry, graduated from Person High School.

MarKeith was awarded the Gliding Eagle Scholarship and will attend North Carolina Central University in the fall. He hopes to fulfill his dream of becoming part of the great “Sound Machine” of NCCU Marching Band. He plans to seek a degree in which he can incorporate his leadership skills as well as music in order to find a career that is more of an employee hobby than a stressful job.

MarKeith has served on the student council during his four years of high school and finished his senior year as Person High School Student Body President. He has represented Person High School at Rocket Fuel Leadership Academy at Camp Oak Hill, State Council Conventions in Fayetteville, Monroe and Mount Airy, North Carolina. He will be attending the Leadership Workshop at Mars Hill College in July, for the third year. He will serve as a Junior Counselor.

MarKeith began a musical career in preschool with piano lessons. Playing the Saxophone in elementary school in the band at Roxboro Christian Academy and is currently the Percussion Captain for Person High School MArching Band, where he won the 2014 Outstanding Musician of the Year Award and Directors Choice Award.
In his spare time MarKeith works at Food Lion in Roxboro, where he has been employed for 2 years and plans to continue working through his college years.

MarKeith is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church, where he has been active serving on the Junior Usher Board, Youth Sunday School, Youth Missionary, Summer Bible Enrichment, Prison and Nursing Home Ministry.

He has also served in the community by being a reading buddy with Earl Bradsher Preschool and volunteering at UNC-TV, answering phone calls to raise money for the Special Olympics.

Kenneth Jay (2014 Person High School Graduate), the son of Jean Thomas and the grand-son of Wilbert and Hazel Thomas. Kenneth graduated from Person High School and will be attending Western Carolina University in the fall, majoring in Forensic Science.

Kenneth was a member of the Person High School Wrestling Team for four years and played Golf for three years. He was also named the Person County Scholar.
Kenneth is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church, where he serves on the Junior Usher Board.

Jasmine McCain(2014 Person High School Graduate), the daughter of Sam McCain and Stephanie Moore and the grand- daughter of Sam Sr. and Carrie McCain. Jasmine graduated from Person High School and will be attending St. Andrews University in the fall on a full Athletic Scholarship, after one of the best Softball careers in Person County. She will be majoring in Physical Theapy.

Jasmine has played Softball during her middle and high school years, 8th grade she was awarded the Leadership Award. Her Freshman year, she was honored to make the Varsity team. Her Sophomore year, she became co-captain and made all- conference. Junior year, Jasmine became captain again and made all-conference, all district and all-state; and was awarded Most Outstanding Softball Player. Her senior year, she remain Captain, which she made all- conference third time in a row. She was named a Scholar Athlete and was awarded Best All Round Female. Jasmine has received Athlete of the week for 2013 and 2014 from BB&T. Was a three- time All- PAC honoree and helped lead Person Rockets to two consective outright conference championships. In 2013, Jasmine was chosen to participate in a Xeno Softball Talent Search in which she made the all tournment team and was named MVP for two games. Since she was 16 years old, she has been a part of a college showcase travel softball team, both East Wake Spirits and NC Thunder. Jasmine also participated on the Women’s basketball team for three years and was captain for two years.

Jasmine was involved in various clubs: FCCLA, HOSA and DECA, which she was chosen as President her senior year and made honor roll. While maintaining her grades, softball practices and games; Jasmine also part time ar Saunders Chiropractic Clinc.

Brian Williams (2014 Person High School Graduate), the son of Carolyn Thomas and Gregory Williams. Brian graduated from Person High School and will be attending Piedmont Community College in the fall, earning a degree in Business Administration and then transferring his college credits to Johnson Wales University in Charlotte, NC to study Culinary Arts.

Brian is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church, where he serves as a Junior Usher, Youth Missionary, Prison and Nursing Home Ministry. He has volunteered at UNC-TV answering phone calls to raise money.
Brian performed with the Person High School Band for two years. After trying to work and be part of the band, he decided to give up band completely and kept working.

Brian’s dream is to become a well- known chef, own and operate his own catering business.

College:

Vanna Cunningham (2014 North Carolina Central University), the daughter of Terry Cunningham. Vanna graduated from North Carolina Central with a Bachelors degree in Public Health Education.She will be continuing her education to become a Public Health Nurse. Vanna has already completed 367 hours of community service and a two month Internship at Granville Vance District Health Department.

Vanna is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church, she served on the Junior Usher Board.

Shireka King Gentry ( 2014 Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary), the wife of Michael Lawerence Gentry, graduated from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, with a Masters Degree in Christian Counseling. In 2009 she graduated from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and was inducted into the Gamma Lambda Leadership National Society at UNC Charlotte and most recently at Gordan Conwell Theological Seminary.

Debbie Wilkerson (2014 Piedmont Community College) , graduated from Piedmont Community College with an Associate of Applied Science in Medical Office Administration.

Debbie is a member of Shady Hill Baptist Church and sings with the Senior Choir.
